Hi Guys,
How are you? I hope all is well with you. Can you believe the year is almost over?!….
I can, I remember in September, I was making my schedule for next year (2021) and I got excited about the conferences I will be attending during the first quarter in 2021. I remember saying to myself, “hurry up year”. Now, I am second guessing my statement because I didn’t configure the “messy middle”. Yes, the “messy middle” is the time between the starting point and the end point.
You know what I am talking about when you are hype about a goal, a new relationship, new job, all is going well, and then boom, you stop, or it stops! Now, please don’t make that face ?. We all have done it. I know, you have had a goal or made one; you started, stop, and never finished. Has this happened to you before?
Please don’t leave me hanging, I know I am not the only one.
Most times, it is not that we cannot finish, we tend to get stuck in the messy middles. If we don’t do the work while in the messy middle (which is usually the hard part), we tend to reset the whole process before we actually get to the finish line. Okay, now I am starting to feel as if I am the only one who has been there.
Let’s try this exercise, think about something you really wanted to achieve in life and notice that you didn’t achieve it because you got stuck somewhere? Has this happened to you? Well perhaps, you didn’t make it to the middle, but you started it. Did you finish? If not, ask yourself why?
There could be many reasons why you gave up, felt defeated, felt unsupported, rely on someone else, or just quit. I have been there too! ALL those reasons.
What I learned and would like to share with you is that one of the most important concepts to help us continue with our goals despite setbacks is “consistency”. Yes, I know you have heard me say this or others and you probably do not want to hear it again, I know, but “consistency” is one of the keys to helping you unlock your fullest potential.
As you heard me say, I have been there. It truly wasn’t until I decided to stop failing and do the work and ask God to leave me to the rock (old saying). In other words, I stop making excuses, told my ego to be quiet, told pride, leave me alone, and pushed pulled and walked toward my goal. Ultimately, I began to see over myself and move closer to the finish line. How about you? What has helped you move closer to the finish line? We all have our own strategies, please share yours ?.
Whether it is being consistent in a relationship, fitness OR health goals, a better attitude, or just wanting to get better in areas you struggle with. Consistency is the key.
One of the most frequent questions I am asked is “How often should I attend ” My response is always the same“ I would suggest weekly, initially”. Why do I say this “consistency”?
Change required Change….
Here are some other examples…. when you are in a relationship, how often should you talk to your partner? Daily, “consistency”. When you are trying to achieve a fitness goal, how often should you work out and eat healthily? Daily, “consistency”. Consistency, builds a habit, habit builds a routine, routine builds progress….etc..etc…. does that mean sense?
Peace and much love,
Ms. Ebony
