The objective of coaching is to help people achieve their goals. The basic presumption of coaching is that coaching clients are in a good place mentally and emotionally and are ready to receive guidance and instruction on how to make changes that will help you achieve their goals. The work focuses on creating and maintaining motivation for change, exploring obstacles to change, and creating plans for change.
Coaching is not ‘therapy’. Coaching has some of the same characteristics and origins as Counseling but does not seek to resolve the deeper underlying issues that are the cause of such things as low self-esteem, loss of confidence etc. Sometimes people are able to work through their own issues but can’t quite get to feel better about life because their self-esteem or confidence is low which makes participating in everyday life sometimes hard. Coaching helps people gain that confidence and enables them to live life fully again.
I have had clients who were in therapy for years, transition to monthly coaching sessions therefore after. Counseling aided in helping the person unravel the deep inter-most hurts and coaching allows the client to continue to achieve continuum goals in their life.
